04.22.2025 - Happy Earth Day!

Here at Love, Recycle we love to celebrate the earth everyday, but Earth Day is always a little extra special since it was Earth Day where all the dreams for Love, Recycle started.

Way back very early in 2010, driving along our local neighborhood streets, exhausted after the holidays, we noticed everyone getting ready for trash and recycling pick up. But what should be a neighborhood full of streets lined with black and blue bins, only showed overfilled black bins with cardboard and plastic bottles squished into the tops. This broke our hearts. The easiest items to toss into a blue bin were just trashed, literally. Maybe our neighbors didn't have a blue bin, maybe they just needed a little bit of information on a schedule pickup, or maybe (sigh) they simply didn't care. That's when the lightbulb went off - maybe they just needed a little help - where to get the blue bins, what is the schedule pick up, and maybe some information on what else goes inside.

At first the idea was to print thousands of colorful fliers with all of this information - but that alone is a contradiction to our purpose - we don't waste paper and we limit our use as much as humanly possible - because like recycling and the earth, we just LOVE trees (and bees too - but maybe we save that for later). Then we thought, well if we did make the fliers we could do it in a way that allows it to be stuck to a wall, a fridge, or even the bins itself. But this idea still wouldn't work. Too many people might consider it junk mail before even taking a good look. If they did keep it, we were still having to consider the paper waist and the likelihood that the information could unpredictably change. So that wouldn't do either. So we just sat on the idea and spread the word by mouth until we could finally get something going.

Little by little things changed on our streets, but the information provided by the city (pasted onto the bins) now is inaccurate or confusing - especially if you compare it with the information on the city's website! So that got our wheels turning again, and finally, we're here. Well, sort of...if you didn't notice...we didn't quite meet our launch date. :/
